Analysis of Mumbai Indians

As the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) kick starts on 7th April, all the teams are geared up to give their best performance on the field. The most balanced team of this IPL 2018 is the Mumbai Indians. Few star players of this team were bought by other team owners in the auction that took place in January 2018. Despite of the loss, the team is quite confident about their performance throughout the season.

Let us have a closer look at the strengths and weaknesses of team Mumbai Indians.

STRENGTHS

Retained the essence

The reason why Mumbai Indians is one of the most successful teams in IPL because they have always managed to maintain the essence of their team. This strategy of theirs has earned them the title of champions for three times. Even for the upcoming season, Mumbai Indians have played their cards well and have secured players like Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Pandya brothers, Keiron Pollard and Saurabh Tiwary. These players are familiar with each other and defending the opposite team would not be an issue.

Master Batsmen

The bowlers of the team who stand opposite Mumbai Indians will have a hard time spinning the bowl as master batsmen will be on the other side of the field. Mumbai Indians have star and power-hitter batsmen like Evin Lewis, Rohit Sharma, Saurabh Tiwary, JP Duminy, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard. Any of these players is alone enough to defeat the opposition in the blink of an eye.

WEAKNESSES

Lack of Spinners

While the Mumbai Indians have power-hitter batsmen in their team, they lack power in the spinning department. Bowlers like Anukul Roy, Akila Dananjaya and Mayank Markande are untested players in the team, while Rahul Chahar is an experienced IPL player, but he too lacks in multiple departments. With such bowlers in the team, MI lovers won’t be shocked to see Krunal Pandya spinning the ball on the other side of the field.

Lack of wicket-keepers

Another department where Mumbai Indians fell short this IPL season is the wicket keeping department as they don’t have quality wicket-keeping batsmen in the team. Although they have Ishan Kishan and Aditya Tare who have combined experience of just 51 IPL matches together and will be seen wicket-keeping this season. Moreover, the duo did not perform well even with their bats in the previous season of IPL.

With these strengths and weaknesses Mumbai Indians seems to be the most balanced team of the Indian Premier League. And with Rohit Sharma leading the team, there are more victories yet to be claimed by Mumbai Indians this IPL.
