The Mumbai All Stars bagged winner’s prize in the first ever poker league championship, the team will represent India at Oxford in England next month
The first 2-day tournament of Indian Poker League (Match IPL) recently concluded in Mumbai on 18 November 2017. The event witnessed the Mumbai All Stars team, crowned as the winners of the league. In December 2017, the team will represent India at the Match Poker World Cup event, that will be hosted by England in Oxford.
Owned by Viaan Industries Ltd. (a BSE-listed company) and the International Federation of Poker (IFP), Match IPL is a regulated sports poker championship. The International Federation of Poker (IFP) is the governing body of sports poker. As per Match IPL, the tournament is “approved and backed by both, the IFP and its Indian Federation.”
Players partiucipating in the mah poker format compete for point rather than money. The competition is played electronically on a computer application. It involves registered players to play for points and the team that scores highest at the end of a specified number of rounds is declared the winner of the tournament.
Over 200 hands were played in 8 sessions in November 17 and 18, 2017. Team Mumbai All Stars were leading on Day 1. After a nerve-wracking match on Day 2, they dominated Team Jaipur and Team Ahmedabad. Both Team Jaipur and Team Ahmedabad stood second and third, respectively. Mumbai All Stars bagged the trophy with a winning prize money of ₹1.25 crore. While prize money of ₹2.5 crore was distributed top three contender teams.
