Earlier in the days when it was still impractical for people to even imagine being a globetrotter, the invention of television became one of the most iconic products of the millennium. On World Television Day 2017, let us take a sneak peek into the world of television, also known as an ‘Idiot Box’, which once became an instant hit the moment it was introduced in the market and an item of luxury in every household.
From elevating our entertainment level to cajoling our emotional switch; from opening our minds about ongoing events to feeding our intellect with the information about diverse cultures all around the world – television has played a leading role in impacting our lives, since its inception in 1927! However, it all started back in 1996, when the United Nations General Assembly sanctified November 21 as World Television Day!
It was to mark the mounting impact of TV on decision-making by grabbing world attention to intensifying conflicts and risk. Also, to bring peace and security and its possible role in refining the focus on other key matters, like social and economic issues.
Even in the present era of computer, smartphone, and tablet, there is nothing which has been able to replace TV. It may have changed its shape from a box looking device to LED screen, but the value of information that a television can offer compares to no other multimedia device in terms of influencing generations.
“I believe television is going to be the test of the modern world, and that in this new opportunity to see beyond the range of our vision, we shall discover a new and unbearable disturbance of the modern peace, or a saving radiance in the sky. We shall stand or fall by television – of that I am quite sure.”

Whether you admit it or not, we are dwelling in a multichannel habitat, where each medium of information is playing a key role. In a world where advertising is a boon, TV became its most dominant platform to spread awareness and strike reverberation amidst consumer’s mindset.
Television is still a dominating source of information even after so many decades. It remains cemented in the hearts of people. It’s time to relive and rewatch similarities as well as differences between our country with another, that is half way across the globe. More than just a mode of information, it is a great uniting force.
